Rainy week ahead for Tampa Bay as cold front stalls and Gulf system develops
A stalled cold front will keep Tampa Bay under gray, humid skies with daily showers, while a Gulf disturbance may become a tropical depression later this week.
The National Weather Service expects a cold front to settle over Florida, resulting in overcast conditions, high humidity and scattered thunderstorms across Tampa Bay, with rain totals of about 2 to 4 inches expected through Thursday. Temperatures will hover in the mid-80s, creating a muggy environment. The Weather Prediction Center has placed a marginal risk of excessive rainfall for the area, and the threat will shift southward as the week progresses.
Meanwhile, a loosely organized low near Mexico is being monitored for development; forecasters assign a 60% chance of it becoming a tropical depression within two days and an 80% chance within a week. The system is projected to move eastward before turning north, potentially bringing heavy rain to the northern Gulf Coast, though models do not yet show it reaching Tampa Bay.
Why it matters
Residents need to prepare for prolonged rain and possible flooding, and monitor Gulf weather for any emerging storm threats.
