Rajiv Gauba urges market reforms and tighter regulation to strengthen India's energy security
Niti Aayog member Rajiv Gauba called for faster domestic gas exploration, a more efficient gas value chain and regulatory updates to improve India's energy security.
At the PNGRB's 20th foundation day, Niti Aayog member Rajiv Gauba warned that geopolitical tensions and supply shocks are making the energy landscape more volatile. He urged India to accelerate offshore and frontier gas exploration and to attract private capital alongside public-sector expertise. Gauba called for an integrated natural-gas value chain, including upgrades to the National Gas Grid, higher pipeline utilisation, and broader city-gas networks.
He emphasized that regulatory reforms should cut unnecessary hurdles and keep pace with new sectors like hydrogen, syngas and CO₂ pipelines. According to Gauba, predictable regulation and open-access principles are essential for investor confidence and public trust in the sector.
