Rakhi on Wrist Helps Family Identify Son Rescued from Delhi PG Collapse

Neeraj Bawa, a 19-year-old BA student from Motilal Nehru College, had moved to Delhi for studies and was staying at the Satya Niketan paying-guest house. He spoke with his father, Darshan, in Jammu the day before the structure collapsed, informing him of his semester success. After the five-storey building fell on September 6, rescue teams broadcast images of victims; Neeraj’s sister recognized him by the rakhi tied to his wrist, as his face was obscured by a vest.

While trapped, Neeraj managed to call friends and share his GPS location, aiding rescuers in locating him. He was extracted after several hours, suffering deep wounds to both thighs, and was rushed to AIIMS Delhi for surgery. Doctors describe his injuries as severe, and his family continues to wait for his recovery, while police have arrested the PG operator and investigations into the collapse proceed.
