Rams cut veteran cornerback Zech McPhearson before season opener
The Los Angeles Rams have released cornerback Zech McPhearson after reaching an injury settlement, clearing a roster spot ahead of their first game in Melbourne.
The Rams added Zech McPhearson on August 10, hoping he could provide depth at cornerback and contribute on special teams. When he did not secure a spot on the final 53-man roster, the team placed him on injured reserve for an undisclosed reason. The club then negotiated an injury settlement, releasing him and giving him the opportunity to join another team this season.
McPhearson was originally drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2021 and spent two seasons there, including a Super Bowl appearance, before an Achilles tear ended his third year. He spent the most recent season on the Jacksonville Jaguars’ practice squad. The roster change occurs just before the Rams travel to Melbourne, Australia, for their Week 1 game against the San Francisco 49ers.
