Range Literary Publishing launches Donnie Darko sequel and expands into comics

Range Literary Publishing, the new imprint of Range Media Partners, announced its first novel, a sequel to Donnie Darko, and revealed plans for additional titles and a comics division.

Range Literary Publishing, the publishing division of Range Media Partners, celebrated its first year by announcing a novel sequel to Richard Kelly's cult film Donnie Darko, marking its inaugural book release. Jeff Speich, a former CAA executive, described the imprint as a bridge between Hollywood talent and the publishing world, aiming to spot stories ripe for adaptation. The company’s early projects featured a special edition of the graphic novel HYDE, created with Jesse Negron, Johnny Depp and Ridley Scott, and the recent debut of Range Comics, which issued Shaboozey's three-part Western series derived from his concept album.

Upcoming releases include a Kenan & Kel graphic novel, a debut novel by Michael Cooper slated for film development, children’s books by Gabe Basso and Bhavna Shyamalan, a lifestyle coffee book by Akilah Releford Gould, and a thriller by Mark DeFriest. A global distribution agreement with Two Rivers, an Ingram Content Group subsidiary, will bring the titles to more than 40,000 retail outlets. Speich emphasized that the integrated model lets the company support authors while simultaneously evaluating adaptation potential for film and television.

Why it matters

It shows how a new publishing model is linking books directly with Hollywood adaptation pipelines.
