Rangers and Celtic to Play Old Firm Fixtures Without Away Supporters This Season

After talks with the Glasgow clubs, the Scottish Professional Football League announced a temporary measure that bars away fans from all Old Firm matches this season, covering both the Premier Sports Cup tie on 13 September and the subsequent Premiership game. The move comes in the wake of one outlet's review commissioned by the Scottish FA into the chaotic quarter-final at Ibrox on 8 March, where roughly 8,000 visiting supporters were present and pitch invasions occurred.

Rangers had suggested a limited away allocation of 300 seats for the cup match, but Celtic rejected the offer. Earlier, the Scottish FA ordered that each club’s next Scottish Cup home fixtures be played behind closed doors. The SPFL said the arrangement will allow time to act on the review’s recommendations, ensure safety, and provide certainty for ticketing and match-day planning.
