Rangers set to host Celtic in League Cup quarter-final after dominant win

Rangers will face Celtic at Ibrox in the League Cup quarter-finals following a 5-1 victory over St Mirren.

Rangers secured a place in the League Cup quarter-finals by defeating St Mirren 5-1, giving manager Derek McInnes his inaugural victory in charge. Their next opponent will be Celtic, with the clash moved to Ibrox after originally being slated for Celtic Park on 20 September. The remaining quarter-final pairings are Stenhousemuir hosting Hearts, Ross County welcoming Hibernian, and Aberdeen traveling to Kilmarnock.

Kilmarnock entered the last eight by beating Ayr United, while Aberdeen, Ross County and Celtic all recorded comfortable wins in the previous round. The four matches will take place over the weekend of 12-13 September.

Why it matters

The fixture pits Scotland's two biggest clubs against each other in a key cup tie, drawing widespread fan interest.
