Rare 8-carat blue diamond ring slated for £2 million London auction
An 8.03-carat fancy light blue diamond ring will be offered at Elmwood’s Fine Jewellery sale in London, with an estimated price of £1.5-2 million.
Elmwood’s will feature an exceptionally rare 8.03-carat fancy light blue diamond ring at its Fine Jewellery auction in London on 1 October, with a guide price of £1.5 million to £2 million. The pear-shaped stone is only the third blue diamond over eight carats ever offered at a UK auction, following the 70.21-carat “Idol’s Eye” sold in 1865 and the Wittelsbach Diamond sold in 2008. The ring, owned by a Glasgow collector, is set with concentric borders of round brilliant pink and white diamonds, enhancing its visual impact.
Joe Kendrick, head of sale at Elmwood’s, highlighted the gem’s combination of size, colour, clarity and shape as a compelling draw for buyers. Natural blue diamonds are among the rarest coloured gems, their hue caused by trace boron, historically sourced from India and Brazil and more recently from South Africa’s Cullinan Mine.
