Rare nor'easter brings heavy rain, flooding and power outages to Jersey Shore

A rare nor'easter is sweeping the Eastern Seaboard, delivering heavy rain, high surf and strong winds that have inundated much of the Jersey Shore. A coastal flood warning was issued as the morning high tide advanced, raising water levels in back bays and lagoon neighborhoods and causing moderate flooding with some isolated severe spots, according to one outlet Weather Service meteorologist Ray Kruzdlo. Governor Mikie Sherrill will provide an update on the storm's impacts, which include power outages and beach erosion.

A high wind warning stays in force for central and north New Jersey, and officials urge the public to avoid the ocean because of dangerous rip currents. In the Philadelphia region, the rain is moving eastward toward Wilmington, with continued showers expected and a chance of minor flooding. The storm is expected to weaken within 24 hours, but water levels may linger for several days.
