In West Sacramento, the Tampa Bay Rays completed an unprecedented nine-game winning streak on the West Coast, defeating the Oakland Athletics 8-4. Liam Hicks delivered a three-run home run, his 16th of the season, while starter Drew Rasmussen, now 12-5, pitched five efficient innings to notch his fifth consecutive win, despite his scoreless streak ending in the third inning. The Rays had previously swept three-game series in Colorado and Seattle, amassing 30 runs across those victories.
This achievement makes them only the second East Coast club, after the 1977 Boston Red Sox, to go 9-0 out West and matches the longest road winning streak in franchise history. Oakland’s Jack Perkins struggled, allowing seven runs in five innings, and the Athletics have now lost three straight and nine of eleven. The Rays improve to 74-46 overall and 33-28 on the road, while the Athletics host Texas next.
