RBL Bank to add up to ₹11,000 crore from Emirates NBD branch merger
RBL Bank says the RBI-approved merger of three Emirates NBD branches will boost its balance sheet by roughly ₹10,000-₹11,000 crore and supports a target of at least 20% annual growth.
RBL Bank announced that the Reserve Bank of India has approved the merger of three Emirates NBD branches, an action expected to add between ₹10,000 and ₹11,000 crore to its balance sheet. Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer R Subramaniakumar explained that the deal, together with a recent $3.4 billion mobilisation of FCNR(B) deposits, will allow the lender to replace high-cost funding and pursue profitable secured mid- and large-corporate loans.
A recent rating upgrade improves its borrowing terms and opens access to multinational corporations and high-net-worth clients. The bank intends to grow its retail franchise through family-account strategies, expand wealth-management offerings, and increase fee income from insurance and asset-management distribution. It also plans to broaden its trade and remittance business while monitoring upcoming insurance distribution norms. Overall, RBL targets a compound annual growth rate of at least 20% and expects the merger to accelerate that trajectory.
Why it matters
The merger significantly enlarges RBL Bank’s asset base, reshaping competition in India's banking sector.
