Real Madrid demands resignation of La Liga chief over Nazi comparison

Real Madrid has issued a statement calling for the removal of La Liga president Luis Enrique Tebas after he likened the club’s treatment to Nazi-era propaganda tactics.

In a lengthy statement, Real Madrid condemned comments made by La Liga president Luis Enrique Tebas, who also holds the vice-president post at the Royal Spanish Football Federation. Tebas had posted on X that two journalists act as mouthpieces for the club’s hierarchy and likened the club’s criticism to the propaganda techniques of Nazi Germany, citing systematic repetition and enemy construction. Real Madrid called the comparison wholly unacceptable and morally repugnant, demanding Tebas resign from his positions in both organisations.

The club further accused Tebas of a pattern of attacks on its own TV channel, describing the behaviour as a plague to Spanish football. It concluded by insisting on Tebas’s immediate departure.

Why it matters

The dispute could reshape leadership and governance within Spanish football.
