The Statistisches Bundesamt announced that 2025 marked a record year for Germany's housing benefit program, with the greatest number of households receiving aid and the highest total expenditure to date. Seniors and families with children under 25 constitute the largest groups among recipients, reflecting growing affordability challenges. Roughly eight out of ten beneficiary households are primary renters of conventional apartments, while a minority reside in institutional care homes or are property owners receiving a burden allowance.
The Federal Ministry of Housing noted a notable rise in overall spending, accompanied by a modest increase in the average monthly entitlement. Regional disparities persist, with some states experiencing sharper growth in benefit uptake than others.
