Recovery tank to be deployed after truck jams under Prague rail bridge

A truck carrying a drilling rig became wedged beneath a railway bridge on Vídeňská Street in Prague, prompting firefighters to call in a recovery tank.

On Wednesday night a truck transporting a drilling rig on a low-loader trailer became trapped beneath a railway bridge on Vídeňská Street in Prague, resulting in damage to the rig but no casualties. Three firefighting units responded, securing leaking vehicle fluids and trying to extract the vehicle with heavy recovery equipment, which proved unsuccessful. Fire service spokesman Miroslav Řezáč said a recovery tank would be brought in on Thursday to complete the operation.

The road leading away from the city centre stays closed, and officials have not provided an estimate of the total damage or a timeline for reopening. Drivers are advised to allow extra travel time and check traffic updates. The incident highlights the challenges of moving oversized loads through urban infrastructure.

Why it matters

The blockage disrupts a major city thoroughfare and requires specialized equipment to resolve.
