Red Bull technical chief says team lacks confidence in RB22 after erratic outings

Red Bull's technical director Pierre Wache warned that the team has no confidence in the RB22, citing a new problem each time the car hits the track.

Red Bull's technical director Pierre Wache publicly expressed a lack of confidence in the RB22, explaining that the car reveals a different flaw at each circuit. Drivers Max Verstappen and Isack Hadjar both complained about the car's erratic behaviour, with Verstappen labeling it "undriveable" after a qualifying spin and questioning how the team managed a second-place finish in Hungary. The French driver added that finding a usable balance was impossible throughout the weekend, citing poor downshifts and grip.

While Red Bull remains the only top team yet to win under the new 2026 rules, rivals like McLaren have shown notable improvement. Wache did acknowledge some positive development despite recent crashes and spins at tracks such as Budapest, Spa and Silverstone. He emphasized the team's effort to understand and fix the issues, but reiterated that confidence in the RB22 is still lacking.

Why it matters

Red Bull's struggles with the RB22 could reshape the competitive balance in Formula 1 this season.
