Red-green parties summon Forssell to parliamentary committee over teen deportations
The Social Democrats, Left, Greens and Centre Party will call Migration Minister Johan Forssell and the Migration Agency before the Social Insurance Committee to demand a swift stop-law on teenage deportations.
In the upcoming session of the Social Insurance Committee, the Social Democrats, Left, Greens and Centre Party will summon Migration Minister Johan Forssell together with representatives of the Migration Agency. Their aim is to press the government to quickly adopt a stop-law that would suspend the deportation of teenagers while a permanent legislative framework is prepared. Centre Party migration spokesperson Niels Paarup-Petersen argued that the committee’s majority should compel the cabinet to start the law-making process and clarify the conditions that would allow the agency to pause removals, noting that previous pauses were possible only because of vague government legislation.
The parties had reached a consensus last week on introducing a temporary ban, but the proposal lacks specifics on which groups would be covered and could take several months to pass. Forssell, who is part of a transitional government, indicated willingness to engage constructively but expressed uncertainty about the bill’s wording and implementation. The hearing will focus on what is required for the Migration Agency to halt deportations immediately pending new legislation.
Why it matters
It shows parliamentary pressure on Sweden to halt minor deportations while a new law is drafted.
