Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran confronts online harassment tied to past suicide attempt

Jarren Duran, an outfielder for the Boston Red Sox, used his Instagram story to display three screenshots that highlight a fan’s persistent messages urging him to end his life, as well as a Google search that listed the fan’s address, employer and arrest record. The player previously opened up about a 2022 suicide attempt in a 2025 Netflix documentary covering the Red Sox’s season. Duran noted that after a difficult stretch in 2021-22, he endured harsh comments from supporters, yet he chose to keep playing.

Earlier incidents include being restrained from a fan in Cleveland and flipping off a fan in Minnesota after similar harassment. Despite a challenging season, Duran remains in the lineup following the team’s acquisition of catcher Adley Rutschman.
