Reddit starts trial of audio and video posts in select communities
Reddit is piloting a new feature that lets users listen to or watch posts as audio or video within its mobile apps.
Reddit announced that it will begin a limited trial of an audio and video format for posts, available on its iOS and Android applications. The test will focus on English-language submissions in a small set of communities, allowing users to either read the text or listen to a spoken version, and in some cases view a video that pairs narration with visuals. This rollout follows the platform’s previous efforts to host native video and the recent introduction of video comments, which now represent a notable share of video content on the site.
Executives highlighted that similar narrated Reddit stories already appear on platforms such as TikTok and Meta’s Reels, prompting the company to explore a dedicated Reddit experience. The trial is intended to assess how these formats resonate with users and whether they can be delivered in a way that feels true to the community.
Why it matters
The test could change how Reddit users consume content, adding audio and video options to the traditionally text-focused platform.
