Reds and Cardinals to clash in Monday doubleheader after rainout reshuffle

A rainout on May 24 turns the Reds-Cardinals series into a rare five-game set, with Cincinnati starting a rookie pitcher and a 27th-man addition for the twin bill.

A rainout on May 24 forced the four-game Cincinnati Reds-St. Louis Cardinals series to expand into a five-game matchup, with two games scheduled for Monday. The Reds enter the doubleheader after losing two straight to the Miami Marlins, exposing a depleted bullpen. For Game 1, the club will start Kent Emanuel, a 34-year-old who has not appeared in the majors since 2024 and has only one AAA outing for Louisville after a period in Indianapolis.

The team also promoted Zach McCambley as the designated 27th man for the twin-bill. Both games will feature back-to-back at-bats by Noelvi Marte and Ke'Bryan Hayes, whose combined -2.2 fWAR ranks among the lowest for players with at least 60 plate appearances this year, while bench player TJ Friedl shares a similar -0.9 fWAR. The first game is slated for a 1:40 PM ET tip-off, with Rhett Lowder slated to start the 6:40 PM ET second contest.
