Reel Suspects Takes Global Sales for Ah Biao's Debut Film 'Border' at San Sebastián
Paris-based Reel Suspects has secured worldwide sales for Ah Biao’s first feature “Border”, which will premiere in the official competition of the San Sebastián Film Festival.
International sales boutique Reel Suspects announced it will manage global distribution for Chinese-born director Ah Biao’s feature debut “Border”, set to open in the official competition at the San Sebastián Film Festival. Worked on as a Hong Kong-U.S.-South Korea-Japan co-production, the picture features actors Zheyan Li, Feng Qi, Sanming Han, Gang Zheng and Tao Guo, and tells the story of an isolated miner whose routine is disrupted by an enigmatic young woman.
CEO Matteo Lovadina lauded Ah Biao’s distinct cinematic voice and the film’s fresh audiovisual style rooted in Eastern experience. Producer Jenny Man Wu emphasized the significance of bringing an independently produced first feature to such a prestigious lineup. “Border” will compete for the Golden Shell alongside filmmakers like Mike Leigh and Pablo Larraín and is also shortlisted for the Sebastiane Award, which honors the strongest portrayal of queer lives.
