Registrar of Societies orders Perikatan Nasional to justify its continued registration

The Malaysian Registrar of Societies has issued a formal notice to the Perikatan Nasional coalition, requesting an explanation within 30 days as to why it should remain registered. The notice was addressed to the coalition’s chairman, secretary-general and all component parties, and includes an order that they cease using the PN logo pending a final decision. This action stems from a complaint filed by the party Bersatu on Aug 11, which claimed PN violated eight provisions and raised doubts about Bersatu’s participation in a July 16 Supreme Council meeting and its membership status.

Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin appealed for an immediate ruling, emphasizing the seriousness of the alleged breaches. The registrar has indicated it will release an official statement on the matter. The outcome could affect the legal standing of the coalition and its ability to operate in Malaysia’s political arena.
