Registrar of Societies revokes Perikatan Nasional’s registration after unsatisfactory response

The Registrar of Societies Malaysia announced that Perikatan Nasional’s registration has been cancelled because its explanations did not address the grounds for cancellation.

The Registrar of Societies Malaysia (RoS) has declared that the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition’s registration is now cancelled. RoS invoked subparagraph 13(1)(c)(iv) of the Societies Act 1966 after reviewing all documents and representations PN provided on Oct 12. A prior notice dated Sept 22, issued under subsection 13(2) of the Act, had invited PN to explain the issues raised.

RoS concluded that the explanations failed to counter the grounds for cancellation and did not offer adequate justification to keep the organisation registered. The decision underscores the regulator’s enforcement of the Act’s provisions. Further updates are expected.

Why it matters

The cancellation removes PN’s legal status, affecting Malaysia’s political landscape and party dynamics.
