Rema 1000 Norway to cut support staff by one quarter in restructuring
Rema 1000 Norway announced a major reorganisation that will eliminate 130 support-function jobs, affecting roughly a quarter of its current staff.
Rema 1000 Norway informed its workforce that a significant reorganisation will see 130 positions in support functions removed, representing about one-fourth of its current headcount. The reductions will be applied to the service centre in Oslo and to regional offices nationwide. CEO Christian Hoel explained that the cuts are necessary to strengthen the chain’s price advantage and overall competitiveness.
He also noted that the plan leaves the roughly 700 retail outlets and their store and distribution staff untouched. The company will introduce a refreshed senior management structure, adding several directors with commercial and support responsibilities. Hoel said the process will be carried out responsibly in close dialogue with employee representatives.
Why it matters
The layoffs will reshape Rema 1000's cost structure and could influence grocery prices for Norwegian consumers.
