Remains of Three Missing Men Found on Rural Smiths Falls Property, Families Seek Answers
Police have uncovered the remains of Lawrence Bertrim, Robert Lambert and Robbie Thomson on a 16-hectare lot near Smiths Falls, while investigations continue and rewards remain offered.
Investigators with the Ontario Provincial Police announced that the remains of Lawrence Bertrim, missing for nearly four years, Robert Lambert, who disappeared in 2018, and Robbie Thomson, last seen three years ago, were recovered from a densely forested 16-hectare parcel north of Smiths Falls. The site, located off Kelly Jordan Road in Montague Township, has become a focal point for the community, which normally sees few such incidents.
Mayor Shawn Pankow expressed mixed emotions, acknowledging the chance for families to achieve some dignity and closure while confronting the grim reality of the findings. Three people have been charged in Thomson’s death, with Christopher Fenton named among them; no suspects have been identified for the deaths of Bertrim and Lambert, and $50,000 rewards remain in place for useful tips. Sgt. Erin Cranton asked the public to give police space to conduct thorough investigations and to respect grieving families. The OPP continues to maintain a heightened presence on the property while seeking further information.
Why it matters
The discoveries highlight ongoing unresolved disappearances and the need for thorough investigations in a small community.
