Remus Pricopie urges a technocratic cabinet backed by PSD and PNL, dismisses PSD-AUR alliance

Remus Pricopie, the rector of SNSPA, posted that the formation of Romania’s next government hinges on a deal between the Social Democratic Party (PSD) and the National Liberal Party (PNL). He noted that four months have already been wasted in talks and that the uncertainty could extend for several more weeks. Pricopie dismissed the prospect of a PSD-AUR coalition, stating that AUR neither wants nor can help lift the country out of its crisis, and that such an alliance would be hard for PSD to justify to its voters or the European social-democratic family.

He proposed that the solution need not be a classic PSD-PNL coalition but rather an agreement enabling a strongly technocratic executive, potentially including UDMR in the governing formula and USR’s support. Concluding on an optimistic note, he expressed hope that common sense and reason will ultimately prevail.
