ReNew signs ₹70,000 crore MoU with Maharashtra for 750 MW green data centre park

ReNew Wind Energy Pvt Ltd and the Maharashtra government have signed an MoU to build a ₹70,000 crore, 750 MW green data centre park in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, with operations targeted for 2028.

ReNew Wind Energy Pvt Ltd, a subsidiary of the clean-energy group ReNew, signed a memorandum of understanding with Maharashtra officials to develop an integrated green data centre park valued at ₹70,000 crore. The 750 MW facility will be spread across Panvel, Khalapur, Taloja and Bhokharpada within the Mumbai Metropolitan Region and is slated to become operational by 2028. The MoU was signed by Principal Secretary P Anbalagan, the CEO of Invest Maharashtra and ReNew’s state head, and includes state assistance for permissions, clearances and fiscal incentives.

The park is required to run on at least 51% green power and will feature dedicated power infrastructure with two independent feeders to its substation. ReNew highlights the project’s fit with Maharashtra’s ambition to reach a $1 trillion economy by 2030 and its emphasis on high-growth sectors such as data centres, semiconductors and clean energy. The company already operates 2.5 GW of renewable capacity in the state and has invested about ₹15,000 crore locally.

Why it matters

The deal brings a massive renewable-powered data centre investment that could boost India's tech infrastructure and clean-energy targets.
