Renewvia Energy to Deploy Solar Mini-grids for Over 30,000 Nigerians

Renewvia Energy, a U.S. solar firm, is expanding into Nigeria with battery-backed mini-grids that will serve more than 30,000 people in the Niger Delta.

Renewvia Energy, headquartered in Atlanta, announced a plan to broaden its African footprint by installing solar mini-grids with battery storage in Nigeria’s Niger Delta, an area rich in oil but lacking reliable electricity. The deployment will initially provide power to over 30,000 residents, with a full launch targeted for next year. To finance the first stage, the company raised $3 million from debt investors, according to CEO Trey Jarrard.

Renewvia also tapped a Nigerian government grant tied to the World Bank-led Mission 300 program, which seeks to connect 300 million Africans to electricity by 2030. The initiative complements Nigeria’s own $750 million fund aimed at delivering power to 17.5 million people. Growing demand for solar solutions is reflected in record imports of Chinese solar equipment across the continent.

Why it matters

It could significantly improve electricity access for tens of thousands in Nigeria’s underserved Niger Delta.
