Renfe to launch streamlined ticketing platform across Spain starting October 2026
Spain's national rail operator Renfe will begin rolling out a new ticketing system on October 28, with full implementation planned for January 25, 2027.
Renfe announced that a revamped ticketing system will be introduced on October 28, initially covering journeys booked for travel from January 25, 2027 onward. The new interface will present key journey details—price, duration, services and train occupancy—earlier, allowing passengers to compare options more easily. It will replace one outlet multi-step process with fewer screens and will be consistent across seven sales channels, including digital and physical points of sale.
After purchase, customers will be able to manage reservations, change passenger names, request invoices and file compensation claims within the same system, while pet and bicycle transport options will be displayed alongside fare choices. Error messages and explanations are being improved to reduce booking failures. A phased transition will see the old and new platforms operating in parallel until the full switch-over in January 2027.
Why it matters
