Renowned Film Composer Nick Glennie-Smith Passes Away at 74

British composer and conductor Nick Glennie-Smith died peacefully on Aug. 16 at his home in Charlottesville, Virginia, at age 74.

Nick Glennie-Smith, a British composer, conductor and keyboardist known for his work with Hans Zimmer, died peacefully on Aug. 16 at his Charlottesville, Virginia residence, aged 74, according to his wife Jan. The cause of death was not released. His film credits span major titles such as The Rock, The Man in the Iron Mask, Secretariat and numerous Zimmer-produced scores including The Lion King and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.

Prior to his Hollywood career, he recorded with artists like Paul McCartney, Roger Daltrey and Tina Turner. He also served as musical director for Zimmer’s live concerts and conducted the Academy Awards orchestra in 2012. He is survived by his wife, four children, several grandchildren and his siblings Steven and Ali.
