Renowned Scottish actress Phyllida Law passes away at 94

Phyllida Law, the 94-year-old Scottish actress and mother of Emma and Sophie Thompson, died peacefully at home surrounded by family.

Phyllida Law, a celebrated Scottish actress born in Glasgow in 1932, died at the age of 94 on Monday, July 27, surrounded by her family. Her manager Jacky Leggo told one outlet that she passed away peacefully at home after more than five decades of collaboration. Law studied acting at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and went on to appear in notable films such as the Jane Austen adaptation starring Gwyneth Paltrow, Kenneth Branagh's versions of "Much Ado About Nothing" and "Peter's Friends," as well as "Nanny McPhee" and Alan Rickman's "The Winter Guest" with her daughters Emma and Sophie Thompson.

She also performed regularly in London's West End, including the original London cast of "La Cage Aux Folles" at the London Palladium. In 2014 she was honored with an OBE for services to drama and charity. Law married actor Eric Thompson in 1957; he died in 1982. She is survived by her daughters Emma and Sophie Thompson and three grandchildren.
