Renowned writer and cultural commentator Bonnie Greer dies at 77

Bonnie Greer, the British-American author, playwright and cultural commentator, died at age 77 after a brief illness, her husband David Hutchins confirmed. Greer, born on 16 November 1948, moved from the United States to the United Kingdom in 1986 and took British citizenship in 1997. Her work, which often highlighted the experiences of minorities and women, spanned fiction, non-fiction, theatre and broadcasting, beginning with the 1994 novel *Hanging By Her Teeth*.

Later titles included *Obama Music* and a biography of Harlem Renaissance poet Langston Hughes. She was honored as a fellow of the Royal Society of Literature in 2022 and was a familiar panelist on one outlet's *Newsnight Review* and *Question Time*. Greer held board positions at the Royal Opera House, the British Museum and the London Film School, and served as chancellor of Kingston University, London.
