Rep. Cory Mills absent from office after primary loss, staff report

Republican Representative Cory Mills has been unreachable by his team since losing the GOP primary, with reports of him spending a day at a beach house.

Following his loss in the GOP primary, Rep. Cory Mills has been out of contact with his congressional staff, raising alarm about his location. A neighbor reported that Mills and 27-year-old aspiring model Catherine Chils spent a full day on the beach at a $2 million New Smyrna Beach house the day after the primary. Chils later denied being at the house, describing Mills as a friend.

Prior to the election, Mills missed scheduled television interviews on both one outlet and a local station, and sources note he frequently disappears, sometimes sleeping in his campaign bus. He faces ongoing investigations by the House Ethics Committee and the Department of Justice over alleged financial misconduct and other accusations. The New Republic has sought comment from his press office without response.

Why it matters

Mills' disappearance highlights concerns about accountability and transparency for an elected official under investigation.
