He labeled the tactic a “smash and grab, get-rich-quick scheme” that effectively turns the White House into an insider-trading operation. Raskin cited the 2012 Stock Act, which prohibits members of Congress and the president from leveraging nonpublic data for financial profit, and said Trump’s pattern of buying stock, promoting it on television, and then profiting from the surge is illegal.
He added that charging for advance access to the posts compounds the violation, turning the arrangement into a tip-off scheme. Raskin likened the behavior to a timed game where participants snatch everything they can before the election, accusing Trump of stealing from taxpayers and the government.
