Rep. Jamie Raskin Calls Supreme Court's Trump Immunity Ruling a Fabricated Doctrine

Representative Jamie Raskin accused the Supreme Court of creating presidential immunity for Donald Trump without legal basis during a Monday interview.

During a Friday appearance on MS NOW’s “All In,” Rep. Jamie Raskin asserted that the Supreme Court’s July 2024 ruling in Trump v. United States fabricated presidential immunity for the sitting president. He described the decision as a product of “thin air” that protects a president from prosecution for felonies committed while in office. Raskin noted that Democrats are actively trying to reveal and counter what he called assaults on the rule of law, even as Republicans retain congressional control through year-end.

He suggested that the ruling is provisional and will likely lead to a seesaw fight among district courts, appeals courts, and the Supreme Court itself. The lawmaker warned that the outcome could influence the nation’s fight against what he termed lawlessness and corruption.

Why it matters

The critique highlights political tension over a Supreme Court decision that could reshape presidential accountability.
