Rep. Maniquiz probes P319 million China-linked funds to CALE88 amid Zambales fishers' crisis

Rep. Doris Maniquiz demanded an explanation for P319 million in China-linked remittances received by CALE88 Foods Corp., linked to Vice President Sara Duterte’s husband, as Zambales fishing families struggle with sharply reduced catches.

In Manila, Rep. Doris Maniquiz raised concerns over a P319 million inflow of China-linked funds to CALE88 Foods Corp., a firm tied to lawyer Manases Carpio, husband of Vice President Sara Duterte. She connected the money to the hardships of Zambales fishers, especially those at Bajo de Masinloc whose weekly earnings have fallen from about P5,000 to just P200-P300. Maniquiz called for a clear accounting of the remittances amid the community’s livelihood crisis.

Why it matters

It raises questions about foreign money flowing to politically connected firms while local fishers face severe income loss.
