Rep. Massie files impeachment resolution against Defense Secretary Hegseth

Representative Thomas Massie, a Republican from Kentucky, submitted a resolution seeking to impeach Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on eight counts. The articles allege that Hegseth ignored congressional limits by continuing an undeclared war in Iran and by directing operations in Venezuela and Yemen without legislative approval, including an attempt to capture President Nicolás Maduro. The resolution further accuses the secretary of ordering extrajudicial killings and of weaponizing the Department of Defense to punish Senator Mark Kelly after Kelly warned troops about illegal orders in a video about a strike campaign.

Kelly, speaking at the Atlantic Festival in New York, said most of the allegations arise from Hegseth obeying presidential directives and that the impeachment effort is unprecedented within their party. He added that he had not previously met Massie before the resolution was filed. The proposal marks a rare intra-party challenge to a cabinet member.
