Republican Rep. Thomas Massie used his floor privilege in the House of Representatives to claim that Prince Andrew, formerly the Duke of York, committed sexual crimes in the United States, tying the remark to a broader critique of Jeffrey Epstein’s network. He stressed that members of Congress are shielded from legal action for statements made on the chamber floor, hoping the remark will pressure the Department of Justice.
Prince Andrew, who lost his royal titles last year, has consistently denied any wrongdoing and has never been formally charged. A congressional panel investigating Epstein’s activities called him to testify in November, yet it cannot force the former royal, who resides in England, to appear. The prince also faces separate British police investigations into alleged misconduct while serving as a UK trade commissioner and accusations of sharing confidential information with Epstein.
Virginia Giuffre, who died in 2025, had previously alleged she was trafficked to the prince and abused, claims he continues to reject. President Donald Trump has publicly criticized Massie, calling him the worst Republican congressman in history.
