Repeat felon flees traffic stop, crashes into school bus, police find pipe bomb

Hillsborough County deputies pulled over a silver Kia Forte at about 4:36 p.m. after noticing its brake lights were out. The driver, 54-year-old Tonnetta Evans, identified herself with a false name and resisted a vehicle search, prompting a deputy to climb partially into the car. Evans then attempted to flee, striking a Pierce Middle School bus carrying 41 students, the driver and a bus aide; the bus suffered only minor damage and no children were hurt.

Officers quickly apprehended Evans and, during a subsequent search, uncovered a pipe bomb, brass knuckles, a TASER, a bandolier of shotgun shells, counterfeit $100 bills, meth, marijuana, prescription pills and several stolen IDs and credit cards. Evans, an 11-time convicted felon with prior convictions in Indiana and Kentucky, was charged with aggravated battery on a law-enforcement officer, armed possession of a controlled substance, illegal possession of a pipe bomb and numerous other offenses. She is being held without bond at the Falkenburg Road Jail.
