Repeat offender arrested after filming assault on woman in Charlotte
Police detained Di-Quan Schafar Hunt after a video showed him shouting at and punching a woman on a Charlotte street, leaving her with serious injuries.
A video posted on X by reporter Hannah Goetz captured Di-Quan Schafar Hunt, 32, shouting at a woman on a Charlotte sidewalk, punching her, and then slapping her while demanding she speak. The assault left the woman with serious, non-life-threatening injuries and required hospital care. Hunt, a repeat offender with nine arrests in the past three years for crimes including assault on a female and weapons offenses, was taken into custody Thursday evening by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police.
Authorities are also reviewing other videos that may link him to additional assaults on women. After receiving medical treatment, Hunt will be handed over to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office and face a charge of assault with a deadly weapon. The case follows a high-profile stabbing of Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska in Charlotte last year, which also involved a repeat offender, Decarlos Dejuan Brown Jr.
