Repeat thief roams Chicago Macy's after overnight lockout, steals clothes

A 53-year-old repeat offender was caught on security video wandering through a Chicago Macy's after hiding in the store overnight, taking garments and a snack before leaving early morning.

Security cameras obtained by the Cook County Sheriff’s Office recorded 53-year-old repeat offender Roy Pughsley inside a Chicago Macy’s after he locked himself in the building overnight in late June. The video shows him strolling through aisles, pulling clothing from racks, trying on several outfits, and even entering the store’s kitchen to open a fridge and fix himself a plate. He departed the empty store at approximately 3:25 a.m. still carrying the stolen items.

A Macy’s employee later spotted a person matching his description outside, noting the same shoes and backpack, which led deputies to detain him. Authorities charged Pughsley with burglary and felony retail theft. The suspect has accumulated 25 arrests in Chicago since 2017, including six this year, the most recent being a June 3 charge for unlawful use of a weapon.
