Report alleges Chinese forces have moved into Arunachal Pradesh border zones
A fact-finding team linked to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s allies says Chinese troops have taken up positions in Arunachal Pradesh, prompting diplomatic protests from New Delhi and Beijing.
A regional fact-finding mission organized by the People’s Party of Arunachal Pradesh, part of the BJP-led North East Democratic Alliance, reported that Chinese troops have encroached on Indian ground in the Upper Subansiri district of Arunachal Pradesh. The delegation said Indian forces are unable to patrol the Taksing area during the monsoon months, whereas Chinese units continue operations, and that the Shera 5 border post was vacated after a 2023 clash.
Local residents expressed anger over the loss of ancestral hunting grounds. The Indian army called the media reports unfounded, while the foreign ministry emphasized the seriousness of border issues and their impact on overall relations. Beijing’s foreign ministry spokesperson described the border situation as generally stable and referenced a recent 36th meeting on border affairs. The accusations arrive ahead of President Xi Jinping’s expected visit to India for the BRICS summit.
