Report Finds $638 Million Funneled Through Tax-Exempt Charities to Boost Democrats in 2024
A new Capital Research Center study shows roughly $638 million was routed through nonprofit voter-registration charities to favor Democratic candidates in the 2024 election.
Capital Research Center released a 64-page analysis titled “The ‘Charities’ Influencing Elections: 2024 and Beyond,” documenting that 83 top 501(c)(3) voter-registration and get-out-the-vote nonprofits moved about $638.7 million during the 2024 cycle, a 30 % increase over 2020 and surpassing inflation-adjusted PAC spending. The study traces the scheme to a 2015 email from John Podesta outlining a $100 million foundation-based voter-registration push, involving donors like Hansjörg Wyss and later supported by Pierre Omidyar’s Democracy Fund.
Major entities such as the Everybody Votes Campaign raised over $75 million, funneling money to groups including Field+Media Corps, which was later charged with forgery in Pennsylvania, and the New Georgia Project, which paid a $300,000 penalty for ethics violations. The report further details related philanthropic spending on the 2020 Census, a Virginia redistricting ballot backed by George Soros and the Service Employees International Union, and the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact, arguing that the charitable channel enables large-scale partisan influence while avoiding typical donor disclosure. CRC urges Congress, the IRS and state authorities to investigate the findings.

It reveals how tax-exempt nonprofits may be used to channel large partisan funds with limited transparency.
