Republican AG hopeful files mock 52-count indictment against Letitia James

Republican candidate Saritha Komatireddy released a fabricated 52-count indictment accusing Attorney General Letitia James of dereliction of duty ahead of Thursday’s debate.

In a pre-debate maneuver, Republican AG candidate Saritha Komatireddy unveiled a mock 52-count indictment that accuses incumbent Letitia James of neglecting core duties. The fabricated complaint alleges that James ignored winter homelessness deaths, allowed repeat offenders to commit violent acts, and failed to curb Medicaid and welfare fraud. It also references a fatal motel fire in Endwell, a shooting of a Buffalo mother, and claims that opioid settlement funds were misused.

Komatireddy demands voters replace James on November 3 and proposes creating an Office of Civil Commitment within the AG’s office. James’s team responded that the filing is a political stunt and highlighted a recent real indictment of a Queens pharmacy owner for $31 million in Medicaid fraud. The two candidates will face off in a televised debate hosted by Spectrum later Thursday.

Why it matters

The stunt highlights the aggressive tactics used in the New York AG race and frames the incumbent's record on public safety and fraud enforcement.
