Republican Groups Flood Texas Senate Race with Over $80 Million for Paxton

Republican-aligned PACs have spent more than $81 million on TV ads to support Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s Senate campaign as the race tightens against Democrat James Talarico.

With less than two months to the ballot, Republican-aligned entities are pouring tens of millions into advertising for Ken Paxton’s U.S. Senate bid in Texas. Texas PAC, connected to the Senate Leadership Fund, has booked about $51 million in TV spots in Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, San Antonio and Austin, and MAGA Inc. and America PAC have added roughly $10 million and $2.6 million. Cumulatively, GOP-aligned groups have reserved over $81 million for Paxton, while Democratic spending, driven by James Talarico’s campaign, stands at about $44 million.

The race, once considered a safe Republican seat, is now rated a toss-up by several forecasters, with recent polls showing the candidates within a few points of each other. Both parties view the outcome as pivotal for control of the Senate, where Republicans currently hold a 53-47 majority. The surge in spending follows a period when Talarico held a cash advantage, but the ad blitz aims to close the gap as voters weigh economic and foreign-policy concerns.

Why it matters

The massive ad spend could tip a closely contested Senate race that determines control of the U.S. Senate.
