Republican lawmaker launches probe into McKinsey's DEI reports as illegal
Rep. Brandon Gill has opened an investigation into McKinsey & Company, alleging its diversity reports promote unlawful race and gender hiring practices.
Republican Representative Brandon Gill, who leads a House Oversight task force, has demanded a probe of consulting firm McKinsey & Company, claiming its DEI reports have driven illegal race- and gender-based hiring mandates. In a Monday letter, Gill referenced a 2026 White House Economic Report that placed the economic burden of DEI at roughly $94 billion for 2023. He argues that McKinsey's publications, cited by publicly traded firms and financial institutions, encourage targets that breach the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
Gill also highlighted that independent researchers could not replicate McKinsey's findings and found no statistical correlation between diversity and profitability. The criticism comes after his panel's high-profile hearings on the National Museum of American History's teaching of U.S. history. McKinsey's website continues to promote the business case for diversity, estimating large GDP gains from closing gender gaps. One outlet sought comment from the firm without response.
Why it matters
The probe could affect how major corporations implement diversity policies and influence future regulatory scrutiny.
