Republican Super PACs Outspend Democrats by Nearly Three to One in 2024 Cycle

With less than three months until the 2024 election, Republican committees and super PACs have built a war chest exceeding one billion dollars, nearly triple the reserves of comparable Democratic groups. Corporate and billionaire contributors dominate this fundraising surge, having donated roughly $1.6 billion to pro-Republican and bipartisan interests, while about 80 % of the top fifty billionaire families' spending favors Republican causes.

The Democratic National Committee, meanwhile, reports just $16 million on hand and $18 million in debt, illustrating a stark cash gap. This trend continues a pattern that began two years ago, when wealthy donors heavily backed Donald Trump and other GOP candidates, and has intensified as oligarchs react against recent progressive policies. In California, the nation’s richest donors have poured hundreds of millions into state and federal races, largely to defeat a wealth-tax ballot measure. The growing partisan split among big donors is prompting calls within the Democratic Party for a stronger economic populist stance.
