Republicans condemn taxpayer-funded TV ads promoting Donald Trump
A group of Republican lawmakers criticized a series of government-paid television spots that highlight President Trump ahead of the midterms.

Republican critics, notably Thomas Massie and John Kennedy, denounced the use of public money for what they describe as self-promotional content, citing legal prohibitions against partisan propaganda.
Legal analysts explained that while agencies may fund public-interest ads, they must remain non-partisan and cannot serve campaign purposes. Former ethics officials warned that the ads may breach federal rules and could prompt calls for reimbursement. The controversy emerges as Trump urges voters to treat him as a de facto candidate in the upcoming midterm elections.
