Residents demand Prime Minister review of 17,000-unit Bandar Madani project
Residents of Bukit Jalil and nearby areas have asked Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to reassess the 17,000-unit Bandar Madani development, citing traffic congestion and insufficient amenities.
In Bukit Jalil, Bandar Kinrara and Taman Puncak Jalil, community groups have pressed Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to revisit the proposed 17,000-unit Bandar Madani development, warning that the scheme ignores current traffic jams and strained public services. Chairman Zainuddin Zainal clarified that the objection is not against development per se, but against a high-intensity plan that appears to breach plot-ratio controls set by the Kuala Lumpur Local Plan 2040.
The coalition held a calm demonstration outside Parliament and handed a memorandum signed by 75 organisations to Seputeh MP Teresa Kok for delivery to the prime minister. They highlighted that the first phase is already open for registration while the plan amendment is still under review, and they seek a joint session with DBKL, the government and MPs to discuss needed infrastructure, including schools, a government hospital, LRT/MRT stations, flood retention ponds, upgraded fire and police stations, and green spaces. The 26-hectare project includes 10 % affordable housing and is expected to bring about 51,000 new residents, affecting the surrounding 3 km radius.
Why it matters
The project's scale could overwhelm local infrastructure, affecting traffic, services and quality of life for thousands of residents.
