Residents evacuate Cheras apartment complex after landslide raises safety doubts
Several families at Pangsapuri Damai Perdana in Cheras are moving out because they fear another landslide and cite a lack of repairs and water supply.
A landslide that struck the slope adjacent to Block D of Pangsapuri Damai Perdana in Cheras on September 22 prompted authorities to advise occupants to vacate the premises. Over the weekend, multiple households were observed loading their possessions and preparing to leave, citing fears that the instability could recur. Selamat Mat Zain, 48, explained that despite being allowed to return, he lacks confidence in the safety of the building and points to the absence of any repair efforts.
He also highlighted additional hardships, including an intermittent water supply. The incident was reported to the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department at 9.03 pm, and officials identified a leaking underground water pipe as the likely cause of the four-metre-high slope collapse. No remediation work has been undertaken by any party since the event.
Why it matters
The evacuation underscores ongoing housing safety risks and inadequate response to infrastructure failures in the area.
