Retired Air Force General Killed in Biplane Crash Near La Londe-les-Maures
A biplane that took off from Cuers aerodrome crashed in La Londe-les-Maures, killing the retired Air Force general piloting it and his passenger.
On Sunday morning a biplane that had just left Cuers aerodrome crashed in the Var town of La Londe-les-Maures, resulting in two fatalities. The aircraft was flown by Patrick Feron, a retired Air Force general who previously commanded a fighter squadron and oversaw flight safety for the service. Feron also served as vice-president of the nonprofit Les Ailes de la Reconnaissance, which offers charity flights to emergency workers.
The second victim was a senior midwife employed at the Fréjus-Saint-Raphaël hospital. The Prefecture of Var confirmed the deaths and said the precise circumstances remain unknown. An inquiry has been handed to the Nice brigade of the air-transport gendarmerie to uncover the factors that led to the crash.
